UNA Pasadena observed International Human Rights Day on 12/9, the day that the General Assembly of the United Nations adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) in 1948.   ORGANISATION INTERNATIONALE DE LA FRANCOPHONIE (OIF) In preparation for the 42nd session of the Human Rights Council this month, the Group of Francophone Ambassadors (GAF) met with Michelle Bachelet, the High Commissioner for Human Rig hts in Geneva on August 30th to discuss objectives and challenges. According to OIF, topics addressed included: the need for further support, budget challenges, and concern over increased human rights abuses. Additionally, the many French-speaking Ambassadors present at the session emphasized the importance of strengthening multilingualism and cultural diversity in meetings as well as in the administrative offices of the High Commission.

2021 Global Engagement Summit

UNA-USA's first-ever virtual Global Engagement Summit was held this past weekend (Feb. 19-20). Typically held annually at the UN Headquarters in New York, this year's sessions focused on "global cooperation." Additionally, as Feb. 19 marked the date that "the U.S officially rejoined the Paris Climate Agreement," much attention was given to America's role in reducing global emissions and preserving our planet. Russification is the replacement of native Ukrainian language and culture with the Russian language and culture based on Russia’s belief that Ukraine is inherently a part of Russia.
